Madurai Kamaraj University, formally inaugurated on 6-2-1996, is situated 15 kms away Madurai City on the Madurai-Theni  Main Road,

In 1971, the Institute of correspondence Course and Continuing Education was established. Later, it was renamed as Directorate of Distance Education(DDE) in 1996. Now DDE has been recognized by Distance Education Council (DEC).

This University has been accorded the status of University with Potential for Excellence. - a status conferred by UGC only on 9 such Universities in the Country. 

        " Our University has been reacredited "A" grade (89%) by the National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC). "



About The University

Distance Education is an opportunity to learn at the speed, pace and convenience of the leaner. Time and distance are, thus, no longer the constaints in learning which is a life- long process. Today distance education is provided globally by multiple institutions through multiple channels. Presently, a massive proportion of the population takes to distance education.
      Madurai Kamaraj University as many as 112 programmes through its Directorate of Distance Education (Recognised by the Distance Education Council, New Delhi) catering to the aspiring learners across the country and also overseas. We provide you study materials, theory and practical classes. Examination are conducted twice a year. We have spread out our wings through our 39 admission Centers in Tamil Nadu, 99 Study Centers outside the state and 15 Study Centres Overseas. Besides, a host of Training Centres takes care of the training needs of students in the professional and science courses.
      Distance Education Council (DEC) has given its post-facto approvel of all courses offered by DDE. The B.Ed programme has been recognized by NCTE. With all these, we endeavour to achieve the goal of quality higher education foa all. The future of education is distance education. Let us strive for massification of higher education and march towardsa knowledge society.
